Our window treatment fabricator said to us recently, “It’s so fun to work on your projects — you guys use the best fabrics!”
High praise from someone who works with fabric day in and day out, wouldn’t you say?
She’s responding, of course, to “the bossy.” We’re always looking for our next bossy inspiration…the bold, the dramatic, the colorful…
Such as Manuel Canovas wallpapers and fabrics, which always serve us well. (And we love our friends at Cowtan & Tout, our local Canovas dealer!) That’s Canovas’s “Dara” on the pillow below.
Nina Campbell is another bossy-approved designer. Our fellow designer, Iantha Carley, introduced us to Campbell’s Paradiso wallpaper in a DC design house. I loved it so much I put it in my very own foyer.
Alessandra Branca provides bossy color’s latest inspiration.
What I like about Nina, Manuel, and Alessandra (first names! As though we’re chums who go out for drinks twice a week!) is that their designs are bold and edgy — but they’re also deeply sophisticated.
This was my first Branca crush: Elizabeth, in Multi Rouge:
It looks like a traditional floral at first glance, but those colors are so unexpected! So hot! The super dark, dry brown really grounds the pattern.
I LOVE this little print: Sofia Diamond. It comes in many colorways, and it feels like heaven. (It’s raspberry in real life.)
Branca’s Continenti toile is super edgy in red and…wait, is that a BLACK outline? Why no! It’s blue! Ha ha!
Lest you think Branca is all about the red and blue palette…
Here’s a parting Alessandra Branca image: a small Chicago dining room that makes me want to weep, I love it so much. It has all my favorite things: a black and white floor, yellow silk drapes, an intimate scale, and a dash of theatricality:
Stay tuned for pictures of bossy color’s latest project, in which Alessandra Branca’s fabrics are prominently featured.
